How much does a water softener or filtration system cost?+
It depends on your house and your water: the size of the home, how many people live there, what is in the water, and where the line comes in. That is why there is no price list here. You get a free quote with honest, upfront pricing for the system that fits your home.

How hard is Houston's water?+
If your water comes from the City of Houston, its Houston Water Quality Report 2025 gives total hardness for the main system as 135.5 mg/L on average, about 7.9 grains per gallon, with samples ranging from 43.5 to 229 mg/L (about 2.5 to 13.4 grains). That is a wide swing, and it is one reason a test of your own tap beats a city average.
Does Houston put chloramine in the water?+
The City of Houston does. Its Houston Water Quality Report 2025 lists chloramines as the disinfectant for the main system, averaging 2.8 ppm in the distribution system. It keeps water safe on the way to you; it is also what many people taste and smell. Carbon filtration, ideally catalytic carbon, is the usual answer. Reverse osmosis on its own is not, because the EPA says reverse osmosis filters do not remove monochloramine.
I'm not on City of Houston water. Does that matter?+
Yes. Much of northwest Harris County gets its water from a municipal utility district (MUD) rather than the City. The North Harris County Regional Water Authority says 143 MUDs take part in its groundwater reduction plan and it delivers surface water to 61 districts, so your neighborhood may be on lake water, well water or a mix. Your water bill names your provider, and every provider has to publish its own annual water quality report.
Do I need a softener, a filter, or both?+
They solve different problems. A softener removes the calcium and magnesium that cause scale, spots and soap film. A whole-home carbon filter handles taste, smell and disinfectant. Reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink is for the water you drink and cook with. Plenty of homes want two or all three, and some only need one. Your quote is built around what your house actually needs.
Where do you work?+
We are based in northwest Houston (77070) and work in Houston, Cypress, Tomball, Spring, The Woodlands, Jersey Village and Katy. If you are nearby and not on that list, call and ask.
Do you test my water first?+
Yes, and it is free. Mathew tests your water before recommending anything, so you know what is actually in it. Call (346) 649-1463 to set one up.
Do you offer a discount?+
Yes. Veterans, first responders and teachers get 10% off. Mathew is a Marine Corps veteran, and Mr. Sparkle is veteran-owned.
Do you install tankless water heaters?+
Yes. Mathew installs tankless water heaters as well as water treatment. Call (346) 649-1463 to talk about whether one fits your home.
What does "for-purpose business" mean?+
It is how Mathew describes the company. In his words: "$100 of every installation goes to help victims of human trafficking."
